From Influencer to Arrested! #shamikadhikary
The Rise, The Controversy, and the Arrest
Just a few days ago, most people knew Shamik Adhikary, also known online as “Nonsane,” as a bold social media influencer who made satirical videos and commentary about politics and society in West Bengal. His content gained attention quickly and built him a strong follower base online.
But suddenly, his name started trending across India — not because of a viral video, but because of a serious criminal case.
According to reports, a 22-year-old woman filed a complaint with Kolkata police, alleging that she had visited Adhikary’s residence where he allegedly confined her for nearly 20 hours. During this time, she claimed she was physically assaulted and threatened.
After the complaint was registered at Behala police station, the police began an investigation and arrested the influencer. Authorities initially booked him for offences such as wrongful confinement and assault, and later added more serious charges based on the woman’s statement.
The case quickly exploded online. Supporters and critics began debating the incident on social media. Some demanded strict legal action, while others claimed the situation might have political angles because Adhikary’s content often touched on political issues.
Now the case is under investigation, and the court has sent him to police custody while authorities examine evidence and statements.
For the internet, it became another reminder of how fast things can change in the digital world — one moment someone is trending for content, and the next moment they are trending for controversy.
And while the investigation continues, the biggest question still remains:
What really happened behind closed doors?
